I have really nice headphones, and the soundtrack has depth to it, which surprised me to find in a game like this. The UI grew on me (Though Im dying for the remake of it that they've shown on twitter), the hotkeys feel so incredibly natural, and the soundtrack is Incredible. I died twice with new characters, and then once with one that lasted a whole hour, but for the first time, dying was fun, and I was looking forward to restarting. All of my complaints were cleared up by the guide, and it just clicked with me. Unfortunately, it has no good way to track the deep things that you find, quests you hear of, or converse with people, which turned me off, for now.Īfter finding a 'starters tips guide' on Friday, I figured Id try to get back into it again, since it offered the same sort of premise, and for the first time, I understood what I was doing. Instead of getting my feet wet with something reasonable like this, I decided to try Dwarf Fortress Adventure mode, because it had the deep world to explore that I was looking for. The UI was clunky, I couldn't tell what was hostile or aggressive on the map, I couldn't 'get immersed' in the game with the way it looked, and I kept dying because the first quest was too hard. Id played for about 8 hours over the course of those 3 years, but I could never survive more than fifteen minutes.
